Getting ready to model material properties at exascale with QMCPACK Quantum Monte Carlo methods are among the very few electronic structure methods which can fully exploit exascale supercomputers. QMCPACK, an open-source production level many-body ab initio Quantum Monte Carlo code, has been supported on DOE leadership supercomputers for over a decade. Due to the energy efficiency needs, the hardware and software stacks change significantly and impose a huge challenge for applications moving forward. QMCPACK developers are making multi-year effort under the Exascale Computing Project to enable a performance portable, developer and user friendly code. Great progress has been achieved on pre-exascale platforms for challenging science needs. This research was supported by the Exascale Computing Project (17-SC-20-SC), a collaborative effort of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science and the National Nuclear Security Administration.
