Correlation Functions

This is a table of g(r) and S(k) for several densities. The axes for g(r) are the same for all these plots, while only the x-axis is the same between the S(k) plots.
Density g(r) S(k)
1.05
0.95
0.92
0.90

At a density of 1.05 (the original density of ex2.in), the system is a solid. This can be seen in the very large first peak in S(k) (about 180). Compare this to a density of 0.9, which is a liquid, where that first peak in S(k) is about 3.

In g(r), at a liquid density (0.9), one clearly sees the peaks due to the nearest neighbor shell, and higher. In the solid state, one sees additional peaks arising from the additional structure of the solid.

From looking at S(k), the melting transition occurs near a density of 0.92.
